The Quiet That Follows the Snow
Sunday, January 25, 2026. We’ve been hit with what feels like an earthquake-level amount of snow.
I don’t let this deter me from getting my beloved Taycan out from under the snow, determined to fully test its AWD capabilities.
With a coffee in hand and steadfast determination, I begin digging a tunnel to the mailbox from the avalanche of snow that has accumulated near the garage.
Across the street, I notice a man with a snowblower working his way up and down the sloped driveway of the house that has sat opposite ours for over two decades.
While sipping my coffee and checking the mail, I strike up a conversation with the couple. I mention just how much snow has fallen and casually suggest that I might need their help.
I ask the man with the snowblower for his quote. He says $100.
Thrilled by the fact that I won’t have to shovel the entire driveway like in years past, I happily work alongside him and his wife to clear it out. In less than 40 minutes, the driveway is completely clear.
With the driveway cleared and the storm behind me, I later drove down to Woods Hole, where the world felt quieter, softer. The snow muffled everything, and for a moment, the Cape felt completely still—one of those rare kinds of serenity you don’t plan, you just notice.
